Introduction

Department of Computer Science and Technology of Hefei University was founded as the most early department funded by the World Bank loan. With rigorous scholarship and innovative school running pattern, our department has attracted a lot of students to obtain higher education and brought up many elitists for the society.

Now our department has three undergraduate specialties in computer science & technology, computer science & technology (cooperation in running education with German university, ";2+3" training pattern) and network engineering which are all entitled to grant bachelor degree. Our department has two vocational specialties in network system management and network system management (cooperation in running education with Korean university, "1.5+1.5" training pattern). There are 784 students studying in our department now. Our specialty construction and training of talents embody the school running ideas of Hefei University which is localization, application and internationalization. We have also proposed our training mode of talents which is high quality, new knowledge, good skills and internationalization. The graduates of our department are now serving the economic construction of Hefei city, Anhui province and China. In 2006, our department and the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg / Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven have assigned the agreement of cooperation in running education and construct the undergraduate specialty in computer science and technology with "2+3 and two diplomas" training pattern. At the same time, our department and Hannam University of Korea have also assigned the agreement of cooperation in running education and construct the vocational specialty in network system management with "1.5+1.5" training pattern. Besides the students of specialties of cooperation in running education, the brilliant students of undergraduate and vocational specialties can also study for bachelor degree as exchanging students in Germany and Korea. We have established the cooperative relationship with the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg / Ostfriesland / Wilhelmshaven, Hannover University of Applied Science and Arts and Hannam University of Korea. We have often invited the experts and scholars from these colleges to make visits and give lectures. Meanwhile, we also sent 9 teachers to study or research in universities and research institutions of America, Germany, Britain, etc.

Now, our department has 35 full-time teachers in which there are 6 teachers who have at least the title of associate professor. One teacher holds doctor degree and four teachers are studying for doctor degree. There are 22 teachers hold master degree (63 percent of full-time teachers). Our teachers have rigorous teaching style, high scientific research abilities, profound scientific attainments and top-grade respect-work spirit. They have been in charge of and attended several projects funded by nation, province and college. Especially, our teachers have made some research achievements on speech recognition and multimedia technology.

Now the total area of laboratory structure is 800 square meters, and there are 230 sets of experimental equipments. Our laboratory consists of Computer Applications laboratory, Network Engineering laboratory, Microcomputer Interface laboratory and Information Security laboratory. These laboratories have formed a good operating platform for practice teaching.

Our students' extracurricular scientific activities and social practice activities are abundant and colorful. They have made excellent achievements in "Developing Eight Honors and Opposing Eight Disgraces" FLASH design competition of college students held by education department of Anhui Province, and won several prizes including the first prize, the second prize and the third prize. The activities of Sending Science and Technology to Countryside have achieved distinguished results, which was honored by Anhui group provincial party committee. Our graduates are welcomed by society for their good quality. The rate of employment maintains above 95% for several years. Our graduates are making great contributions to local economical constructions and social harmonious developments.

With the development of information technology based on computer technology, our department of computer science and technology must have a splendid future.
