专业简介

   英语系英语专业开设1980历经传统人才培养模式、复合型人才培养模式、模块化人才培养改革三个发展阶段,2020年入选安徽省省级一流本科专业建设点。本专业落实立德树人根本任务,立足合肥,服务安徽省,面向长三角,培养适应区域文化与经济社会发展语言服务产业和对外宣传需要,培养具有良好的综合素质、扎实的英语语言基本功、较强的语言运用能力,较高跨文化传播能力,能胜任讲述合肥故事、安徽故事和阐释皖风徽韵的复合型、应用型人才。

师资与教科研

   英语系现有专业教师 19人,其中副教授10讲师9博士2人,在读博士1安徽省教学名师1人,安徽省教坛新秀1人,学校认定的双能型教师20,教育学硕士点导师5人;3人具有国外高校学历,9人次曾在国外高校访问,6次人曾在国内高校访学。

   英语系拥有一批高水平的教学团队1人获中国外语微课大赛全国决赛一等奖2人获省赛一等奖,1人获外研社教学之星大赛复赛一等奖,1人获全国高等院校英语教师教学基本功大赛安徽省一等奖1人获外研社全国高校外语教学大赛(英语专业组)安徽赛区一等奖,1个团队获安徽省超星杯智慧课堂教学创新大赛一等奖。多人获得翻译技术培训证书、计算机辅助翻译证书、商务英语核心课程设计工作坊证书等。

         2016年以来,英语专业教师共主持省级科研项目13项,省级和校级质量工程项目24项、横向课题21项,教学研究项目反哺教学成效明显。发表 CSSCI 期刊论文13篇,其中科研论文11篇、教研论文2篇。在本科学报发表学术论文 57 篇,其中科研论文 36 篇、教研论文 21篇。

专业建设

   英语专业组建了读写、听说、应用翻译、跨文化与文学等6个课程组。课程组深入推进《习近平谈治国理政》多语种版本三进工作,整合线上线下优质资源,提供有提炼、有深度、有拔高、能拓展的教学内容,并科学考评学习效果。2016年以来,建设省级精品课程、混合课程、教学示范课10门,校级线上线下混合课程4门,省级规划教材18本。

就业前景

   毕业生可在政府部门、企事业单位从事与涉外经济、商务、外事、文化等领域的笔译、口译、项目管理等工作。模块化改革后的课程体系更加符合社会需求,缩短了毕业生岗位适应期。近年来就业率达98%以上,位于学校前列。

   部分毕业生选择攻读翻译专业硕士、学科教育(英语)、英语专业或其他相关专业硕士学位或出国深造,人才培养质量兄弟院校认可,国内高校研究生录取约占18%。部分毕业生顺利考取上海外国语大学、西安外国语大学、外交学院等外语类院校,以及东南大学、中山大学、苏州大学、上海财经大学、南京师范大学、合肥工业大学、安徽大学等综合类院校深造。部分毕业生考研录取专业见下表:

专业特色及成效

   英语专业以课堂作为人才培养的主阵地,以学生为主体深化自主学习能力培养,提高学生学习获得感;重视教师教学能力建设,促进教师职业发展。对照《外国语言文学类教学质量国家标准》,紧跟国家新文科建设的政策导向,优化人才培养方案,形成能力核心,模块特色,实践创新,强师为本,文化传播的发展路径。

  • 以“能力培养”为导向,培养应用型人才

  从社会需求出发反向设计人才培养方案,重构以能力培养为导向的模块化教学体系,设置翻译和比较文学与跨文化两个专业方向课程培养具有较高跨文化传播能力,能胜任讲述合肥故事、安徽故事和阐释皖风徽韵的复合型、应用型人才。

  • 以“新文科”为指向,构建特色课程体系

  建构计算机信息技术基础”“研究方法”“学科前沿翻译技术数字人文课程体系,增加专业课实践教学比例;与语言服务公司合作,培养学生语言服务与信息技术运用能力。

  • 以实践教学为抓手,提升人才培养质量

  英语专业强化培养语言运用能力,部分课程设置实践学习环节,辅助专业理论课程教学鼓励自主学习和个性化发展,发挥学生潜能,落实跨文化应用型英语人才培养理念。2016年以来,多人次在全国大学生英语竞赛、外研社杯演讲、写作、阅读大赛、全国口译大赛、跨文化能力大赛中荣获佳绩,其中国家级8项,省级60项。近年获批 7 项省级及国家级创新创业项目。

  英语专业为社会各界培养了一批优秀杰出人才。王恬(1993届),人民日报社新媒体中心副主任、高级记者;汪之华(1999届),现任蜀山区井岗镇人民政府井岗镇党委委员;汪昌松(2002届),北京理工大学外国语学院博士,副教授,硕士生导师;吴婷(2006届),嘉宾大学创办人(The Founder of JIABIN UNIVERSITY),联合国全球企业社会责任峰会社会责任领袖奖获得者;黄宇皎(2007届),安徽省发展改革委一级主任科员;郑雨轩(2015届),新西兰奥克兰大学博士,北京第二外国语学院教师何婷婷(2021届),就职于西藏拉萨市公安局。


A Brief Introduction to the Department of English

English Program

        Established in 1980, the English program of the Department of English was rated as the “Provincial-level First-Class Undergraduate Programs” in 2020 since the model of talent development has undergone three stages of traditional, compound type of talent and modularization teaching reform. Persisting in the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, the program, based in Hefei and in the service of Anhui and the Yangtze River Delta, equips students with a good command of English and abilities to tell Hefei and Anhuis stories to the world, the charm of Anhui in particular. The goal of talent cultivation is to develop applied and compound type of talents with intercultural competence and international vision.

Staff and Achievements

        The department boasts 20 full-time “dual qualified” teachers, among whom are one professor, ten associate professors and nine lecturers, two have doctoral degree and one is a doctoral candidate. Of all the teachers, there is one “Provincial Distinguished Teacher”, one “Provincial Excellent Teacher” and five supervisors for master of education. Three teachers have obtained degree in overseas universities and majority have been sponsored by the national and international visiting-scholar programs. 

        The program owns a high-level teaching team. Among all the teachers, one won the first prize in the national final of China Foreign Language Micro-course Competition, two won the first prize in the provincial competition, one won the first prize in the rematch of FLTRPs Teaching Star competition, one won the first prize in the National Basic Skills Competition of English Teachers in Colleges and Universities of Anhui Province, one won the first prize in the FLTRPs National Foreign Language Teaching Competition (English Program, Anhui), and one team won the first prize in Anhui “Super Star Cup” Smart Classroom Teaching Innovation Competition. Many teachers have obtained the certificates of translation technology and CAT training as well business English core curriculum design workshop, etc.

The teachers have undertaken 13 provincial-level research projects, 24 provincial-level and university-level teaching quality projects, and 21 cooperation projects with companies since 2016. Teachers also have published 13 academic papers in CSSCI and 57 papers in undergraduate journals.

Program Development

        The program has six teaching groups, including reading and writing, listening and speaking, applied translation, intercultural and literature courses. Taking advantage of online and offline resources of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, teachers have refined and expanded teaching contents profoundly and effectively. Since 2016, it has offered ten provincial quality courses, mixed courses and teaching demonstration courses and four unversity-level mixed courses as well. The teachers have compiled and published a series of 8 provincial planning textbooks.

Employment Prospect

        Graduates can be engaged in translation, interpreting, project management and other work related to international economy, business, foreign affairs, culture and other fields in government departments and enterprises.Thanks to the modularization teaching reform, its graduates are more adaptable to their work, and welcomed by employers. The employment rate has reached over 98%, ranked among the top at Hefei University.

        Some graduates pursue a master’s degree in literature, translation, education and other programs with an admission rate of 18%. Some have been admitted for further study by some prestigious universities in China, including Shanghai International Studies University, Xi’an International Studies University, China Foreign Affairs University, Southeast University, Sun Yat-sen University, Soochow University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing Normal University, Hefei University of Technology, Anhui University, etc.

Characteristics and Achievements

        Taking classroom as the main position of talent development and adopting the students-centered philosophy, the program is committed to fostering students’ autonomous learning ability and improving their sense of fulfillment in learning, and to teaching quality, teacher professional development. It has optimized the talent development plan and developed its own path to “competence as priority, modularization, practice and innovation, strong faculty, and cultural dissemination” in line with the National Standards for Teaching Quality of Foreign Languages and Literature and the national policy of constructing “new liberal arts”.

  • Ability-oriented Education

        The department designs its development plan on the basis of job requirements and reconstructs its ability-oriented modularization teaching system, offering compulsory courses in translation as well as comparative literature and intercultural communication, so as to cultivate compound type of applied talents with high intercultural communication ability who are capable of telling China’s story and interpreting the charm of Anhui to the world.

  • Curriculum System Featuring New Liberal Arts

        To develop students capability of language service and information technology application, the department has established the curriculum system of digital humanities, including Computer Information Technology Fundamentals, Research Methods, Disciplinary Frontiers, and Translation Technology by increasing the proportion of practice and promoting cooperate with language service companies.

  • Practice to Improve Quality

        The program is devoted to students’ language use. To foster intercultural applied English talents, the program combines theory and practice in many of its courses, encouraging autonomous learning and realizing students’ full potential and individual development. Many students have won 8 national and over 60 provincial awards in the National English Competition for College Students (NECCS), FLTRP Cup Speech, Writing, Reading Competitions, National Interpretation Competition (English) and Intercultural Competence Competition since 2016. In addition, seven innovative entrepreneurial projects at the provincial and national levels have been approved.

The English graduates have proved to be competitive in all walks of life. Some representatives are:

Wu Ting (2006 graduate), founder of Jiabin University, winner of the Social Responsibility Leadership Award of the Global Corporate Social Responsibility Summit of the United Nations;

Huang Yujiao (2007 graduate), division director of Anhui Development and Reform Commission;

Zheng Yuxuan (2015 graduate), Ph.D. of the University of Auckland, teacher of Beijing International Studies University;
