On May 9th, the results of the 2026 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) / Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) were officially announced. Three teams from Hefei University (HFU) earned Honorable Mentions.
All the three Honorable Mention teams are from the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The coaching team provided targeted training in mathematical modeling, algorithm implementation, English academic writing, and competition protocols. Despite tight deadlines and heavy workloads, the students collaborated effectively, applied their academic training with rigor and innovation, overcame a series of challenges, and submitted high-quality solutions.
This year’s event attracted tens of thousands of students from top universities across dozens of countries, including the University of Cambridge, Columbia University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Hosted by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP), MCM/ICM is one of the most prestigious international mathematical modeling competitions worldwide. It consists of two divisions: MCM and ICM. The contest aims to foster students’ ability to solve complex real-world problems with mathematical thinking. Three team members must complete problem analysis, model construction, solution validation, and an English paper within four days. Evaluation criteria include originality, teamwork, writing quality, and validity of results.
