The Women’s Individual Epee event of the 2026 World Fencing Championships concluded at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong on July 25th. On behalf of the Chinese national team, Hefei University (HFU) student Tang Junyao, won the bronze medal.
The 2026 Women’s Individual Epee event drew nearly 200 of the world’s top fencers. In the group stage, Tang Junyao was in scintillating form, advancing forcefully to knockout rounds with an unbeaten 6-0 record. During the main draw, with her solid fundamentals honed through years of rigorous training, she delivered sharp offensive-defensive transitions and clear tactical thinking, fighting all the way to the semi-finals. In the semi-final against South Korean star Song Se-ra, the two fencers were locked in a tight, fierce duel with the score tied at 7-7. Facing her opponent’s relentless attacks, Tang Junyao fought hard to hold her ground, before narrowly losing the match and ultimately claiming the bronze medal.
It is reported that the World Fencing Championships are still underway, and Tang Junyao will team up with her national teammates for the women’s epee team event. HFU’s faculty and students eagerly hope she can scale her new heights in the team event, and continue to write the glory of HFU’s fencing.
